Making Payments to UHV
We understand that preparing to study in another country is a big step, and we want to help make the process as smooth as possible. One important aspect of your preparation is making sure your financial arrangements are in place before arriving at the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV). Please note that UHV is unable to assume financial responsibility for international students and their families.
To ensure your admission and attendance at UHV, you’ll need to provide the funds indicated in your Letter of Financial Sponsorship and the supporting bank statements submitted to UHV. You must have access to the total amount listed in Item #7 on your I-20 or Item #5 on your DS-2019 form.
While on-campus employment may be an option for some students after arrival, these opportunities are limited, and eligibility criteria apply. Since proof of funding is required before you can be fully admitted, on-campus employment cannot be counted toward that proof. Please keep in mind that students should not rely on working in the U.S. to finance their studies.
For safety reasons, we recommend that you avoid carrying large amounts of cash when traveling. However, it is a good idea to bring approximately $500 USD for emergency expenses, such as transportation, phone services, books, or other immediate needs upon your arrival.
Once you are here, it is important to manage your finances carefully. You will be responsible for covering all your living expenses, such as health insurance, books, rent, utilities, and food, as well as any amounts owed to UHV. Please be aware that students must pay all tuition and fees in full by the end of each semester in order to continue their studies. If there is an unpaid balance, this can affect your ability to register for courses and may ultimately lead to the cancellation of your immigration status in the United States.
We’re here to support you in every step of this process. If you have any questions or need assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out.
