Superintendent
Graduate Certificate Preparation Program
We offer preparation for either of the two TEA-approved routes to the superintendency, the traditional route for those with a master’s degree and principal certification, and the newly-approved alternative route for master’s-degreed professionals in support service roles at the district level (including finance, facilities, HR, etc.) who aren’t certified as principals.
What does the program entail?
Your road to the superintendency is a short one!
Because you already have a master’s degree, with only five courses and an approved practicum, all of which are aligned with Texas TAC Title 19, Part 7, Chapter 242, §242.15 standards, you’ll be prepared to succeed on the TExES #195 Superintendent Certification assessment and to tackle the responsibilities of a district.
Your studies will include these courses, all taught by active Texas superintendents:
- ELAS 6341 Personnel Management
- ELAS 6342 Educational Finance
- ELAS 6343 Policy, Public Affairs and Community Relations
- ELAS 6345 Educational Facilities, Services and Environment
- ELAS 6346 Executive Functions of the Superintendency
- ELAS 6309 Practicum for the Superintendency
Will that cover all the requirements for certification?
No, but it’s a great start!
You’ll need to possess a master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university, or else you’ll want to get involved with our M.Ed. in Administration & Supervision with an emphasis on the Superintendency.
If you’re currently a principal and possess a principal certificate from Texas or another state, or if you have completed the superintendent certificate application and been approved by the TEA, then all that’s left is to pass the TExES #195 Superintendent Certification assessment.
Now what?
You go for it!
