By earning a master’s degree in education, you will be better prepared to face the challenges of the job of educator. Having a master’s degree can open up more job opportunities for you.

For example, you could be a: lead teacher on campus, education technology specialist, instructional coach or curriculum specialist or curriculum director in a school district, education consultant at a regional service center, corporate trainer, education policy developer or instructor at a community college.

Degree Plan

Core: 12 hours *

  • CUIN 6312 Human Development and Learning
  • CUIN 6314 The Professional Educator
  • CUIN 6320 Models of Teaching
  • LITY 6334 Foundations of Developmental Reading
    *Required to prepare for TExES #293 Science of Teaching Reading Exam (EC-6 or 4-8 Certification)

Internship or Residency: 6 semester hours**

  • CUIN 6316 Internship/Residency I
  • CUIN 6317 Internship/Residency II

**The two additional courses for certification do not count towards master’s degree requirements.

Major Concentration: 18 s.h. (recommended or by advisement)

  • CUIN 6336 Advanced Science Methods for Teachers
  • CUIN 6350 Teaching the Social Sciences & History
  • CUIN 6352 Progressive Math Methods for Teachers
  • ESLN 6312 Principles of Second Language Teaching
  • SPED 6321 Introduction to Special Education

Total: 30 semester hours

Additional Requirements:

  • Certification requirements must be completed before taking the master comprehensive exam.
  • Take Master Comprehensive Exam during final semester of coursework
