We contribute to a healthy, safe, and productive academic environment and are responsive to the needs of our diverse student body.

Parent Involvement

Student involvement: Parent InvolvementUHV Parent Involvement ties students’ families to resources that aim to help students succeed academically and socially while in school. UHV also offers its students and their families the opportunity to connect with the university and its faculty and staff through an event called UHV Family Weekend which is held each Fall semester. This event provides families ample interaction with UHV faculty and staff, the university athletics program, and the Victoria community in effort to build a sense of pride and support for UHV students. Get updated information about involvement opportunities at UHV emailed to you by signing up for our Family Newsletter.

For more information please visit our Family Weekend webpage or contact Freddie Cantu at (361) 485-4474.

First Generation

First-generation college students are defined as “any student whose parents, or guardians, did not complete a four-year college or university degree”. Many first-generation college students experience unique strengths and challenges in the pursuit of a college education. Many of them may have to learn to adjust to the academic culture while maintaining the culture and traditions of their family of origin. The UHV Student Involvement office is committed to supporting and nurturing students’ intellectual, social, personal, and professional development by coordinating interactive programs and activities specific to the needs of first-generation students.

Outdoor Adventures

Outdoor Adventures at UHV provides students with the opportunity to explore Texas through activities such as kayaking, hiking, fishing, paintball and a variety of other nature trips. All of our activities are free of charge and guided by community members. They are aimed at preparing students for real world experiences. Students who participate in any outdoor adventures will be provided transportation to and from the event.

For more information on outdoor adventures, visit our office in University Commons, suite 2202, or give us a call at (361) 485-4410.

Club Sports

Club Sports at UHV allows students with common interests in the sport of their choice to develop an organization that competes with other universities across the region and nation. Students are guided through the process of becoming a chartered organization and eventually become a functioning club team that can practice, fundraise, travel, and represent UHV in competition. Each club sport has a faculty or staff advisor that monitors and guides all club decisions in a way that best fits the students and the university. Contact Zion Walker at (361) 485-4496 for more information.
