Office Home Software Steps
Office 365 for Education is now a free subscription plan available to faculty and staff at UHV. This plan, at this time, allows users to install Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher, and Access on up to 5 PCs or Macs and Office apps on other mobile devices including Windows tablets and iPadsĀ®. The plan also includes 1TB of OneDrive storage. Users can edit and collaborate using Office Online, Yammer, and SharePoint sites. Office supports PCs and Windows tablets running Windows 7 or higher, and Macs running Mac Os X 10.6 or higher. Office for iPad can be installed on iPads running version 7 or higher.
How do I get it?
Just FYI, you also can use the online applications -- no install needed.
Do I need to contact Information Technology to install it?
No need to contact us. This transaction is between you and Microsoft. Microsoft keeps track of licensing, so there is no need for us to be involved. There are no CDs or DVDs to distribute, and no access keys to deal with. It is all done from the Office 365 website.
What happens when a new version is released?
This is the thing that will make some people nervous. New versions are automatically pushed to your computer. Usually these will only be security related changes to the previous version. However, what are currently known as upgrades (Ex. Office 2007 to Office 2010) will also automatically download and install. So, you will not be able to forego these upgrades. The good news is, you will always have access to the newest Office tools and more of the tools Microsoft has to offer. And, you will not have to wait on the university to approve new versions to get those versions. They will be available to you as Microsoft releases them.
How long is it free?
As long as you are an employee or student of UHV (have a valid UHV email address).
