Programs
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, veteran students graduate from college at a lower rate compared to non-veteran students. At UHV, it is our goal to combat this with a number of programs and co-curricular experiences for our veterans that we believe will assist them in getting to graduation day. The programs we offer for veterans are free and come from a variety of different offices on campus.
Veteran Workshop Series
The Veteran Workshop Series is held once a month during each long academic semester. It covers a wide variety of topics aimed to help our veteran students be successful here at UHV. Programs in this series include:
- Resume Writing 101
- Ask For Help, It’s Easy
- The Transition: Military to Academia
- Involvement Matters: Co-Curricular Experiences at UHV
- Using My Benefits
- Well-Being in College
Veteran Mentorship Program
UHV has a number of faculty and staff members that served in the U.S. Armed Forces. As such, we have created a Veteran Mentorship Program that is available to our veteran students. In this program, our veteran students will receive one-on-one mentorship from an assigned mentor. The mentoring sessions will be arranged and scheduled between the mentor and veteran student on an as needed basis.
Student Organizations
UHV has a number of co-curricular experiences available to students. One of these experiences is through our student organizations. Student organizations provide opportunities to enhance your collegiate experience. You will learn to network, make new friends, set and achieve goals, and discover new talents. The more involved you become, the more you will benefit from your educational experiences. As you grow at UHV, you will become part of a team that will last a lifetime.
We are currently trying to assist our veteran students in forming a Student Veteran Association organization. For more information on how to start a student organization, visit the Student Organizations web page.
Social Events
UHV recognizes and thanks its veteran students through a number of in-person and online social recognition events and celebrations. Those include:
- Patriot Day
- Veterans Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Service Branch Birthdays
- Red Shirt Fridays
For more information on these events, make sure to login to JagSync or follow us on social media using the username @UHVStudentLife.
Patriot Cord
UHV appreciates the service to our country that each of our veteran students has provided. As such, we have created the red, white, and blue Patriot Cord to honor our graduating veteran students. Veteran graduates will get to wear the Patriot Cord and receive a special recognition during commencement, all at no cost. If you are a Veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces and would like to receive a Patriot Cord, please complete this form.
