CARES Act Reporting

On April 21, 2020, the University of Houston-Victoria signed and returned to the U.S. Department of Education the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that the institution intended to use no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

Pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants, UHV received $2,233,006 of which one-half ($1,116,503) is provided directly to students in the form of emergency grants.

As of November 9, 2020, 749 UHV students have been awarded $1,116,503 in CARES Act grants. Information, criteria and the application for the CARES Act is located at www.uhv.edu/covid-19/cares-act.

The total number of UHV students estimated to be eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to date is 1,776.

The total number of UHV students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to date is 749.

Qualified students must meet the Department of Education rules, regulations and criteria in having experienced a disruption of campus operations due to COVID-19. A student’s disruption includes only face-to-face classes and living situation. UHV Financial Aid uses a formula to calculate grant amounts. The amount is based on a percentage of each category’s average monthly expenses with a maximum awarded amount of $1,000 based on the following matrix:

The remaining CARES Act Emergency grant funding will be offered in the Fall 2020 term.  CARES Act Emergency Grant recipients during the Spring 2020 term will receive an additional disbursement in the amount of $703.92.  The grant will be offered to Spring 2020 CARES Act Student Emergency Aid recipients who are enrolled in the Fall 2020 term, have an official 2020-2021 FAFSA on file, have an unmet financial need greater than $999, and meets the federal eligibility requirements.  No application is required.
