Orientation and Transition Programs – Summer 2022

ROAR First-Year Orientation, Overnight is an in-person opportunity for individuals to begin to express their roar at the University of Houston-Victoria. It is held for students who will primarily be attending classes at the Victoria campus, and will be in their first year of college with less than 24 credit hours. It is an event specifically designed for new Jaguars who want to discover everything our institution has to offer. At ROAR First-Year Orientation, Overnight students will learn about campus resources and opportunities and be prepared to acclimate and rise to success at UHV. Our ROAR First-Year Orientation, Overnight sessions will be held in-person at the Victoria campus.

There will be multiple in-person ROAR First-Year Orientation, Overnight sessions. Registration and date information for our ROAR First-Year Orientation, Overnight sessions can be found below.

  • Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25 | Register Here
    • Friday from 6-10 p.m.
    • Saturday from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Friday, July 29 and Saturday, July 30 | Register Here
    • Friday from 6-10 p.m.

Yes, there is a charge for students and their family/guests to attend ROAR First-Year Orientation, Overnight. The participation fee is $40 for students, and $20 for each family member or guest.

The participation fee for students includes overnight housing in one of our residence halls and dinner on Friday, lunch on Saturday, a t-shirt, hat, and other UHV memorabilia. The participation fee for family or guests includes dinner on Friday, lunch on Saturday, and a UHV t-shirt.

ROAR First-Year Orientation, Virtual is an online opportunity for individuals to begin to express their roar at the University of Houston-Victoria. It is held for students who will primarily be attending classes at the Victoria campus, and will be in their first year of college with less than 24 credit hours. It is an event specifically designed for new Jaguars who want to discover everything our institution has to offer. At ROAR First-Year Orientation, Virtual students will learn about campus resources and opportunities and be prepared to acclimate and rise to success at UHV. Our ROAR First-Year Orientation, Virtual sessions will be held live online.

No. However, it is highly encouraged as it will help first-year students transition smoothly into university life. All students who attend ROAR First-Year Orientation, Virtual will have a free UHV t-shirt mailed to them after attending the session.

No, participating in ROAR First-Year Orientation, Virtual is free.

Yes. In fact, we would encourage you to attend both the overnight and virtual sessions if possible. They will each provide valuable information to first-year students.

Various resources and information will be shared at ROAR First-Year Orientation, Overnight and Virtual sessions. Academic resources such as advising, degree plans, tutoring, writing assistance and the UHV Library will be covered. Additionally, financial aid, campus safety, student billing, campus life, student services, and Jaguar pride and traditions will be discussed with first-year students. Lastly, there will be several student, faculty, and staff panel discussions.

Yes. However, we do encourage you to register for classes as soon as possible, as classes fill up quickly.

You will work with your success coach (academic advisor) in the Student Success Center to register for classes. They will assist you with the process. Using your smart phone, follow the steps below:

  1. Search for “Navigate Student” and download the app.
  2. Search for “Victoria” and select the University of Houston-Victoria.
  3. Sign in with your UHV log in information. This log in is the same as your UHV email and JagSpace.
  4. Once the app opens, click “Appointments”, and schedule an advising appointment with your advisor in the Student Success Center.
  5. If you have questions about Navigate, or about meeting with your success coach (academic advisor) in the Student Success Center, email sschelp@uhv.edu. You can also visit www.uhv.edu/navigate for more information on Navigate.

We encourage you to register for classes as soon as possible, as classes fill up quickly. Preferably, you will work with your success coach (academic advisor) in the Student Success Center to register for classes in an advising session before attending a ROAR First-Year Orientation session. You can sign up for an advising session using the instructions in the previous question, or by emailing sschelp@uhv.edu.

Yes. It is a requirement for all first-year students to attend Jaguar Journey Welcome Weekend. Jaguar Journey is held in Victoria the weekend before (August 19-21, 2022) classes begin for the fall semester and is required for all first-year students as part of their UNIV course. Incoming first-year students are automatically registered for Jaguar Journey. For more information on Jaguar Journey, email orientation@uhv.edu or visit www.uhv.edu/orientation/jaguar-journey.

ROAR Katy Orientation is an opportunity for individuals to begin to express their roar at the University of Houston-Victoria. It is for new students with more than 24 credit hours who will primarily be attending classes at the Katy instructional site. At ROAR Katy Orientation, students will learn about campus resources and opportunities and be prepared to acclimate and rise to success at UHV. The ROAR Katy Orientation session will be held in-person at the Katy instructional site.

There will be a ROAR Katy Orientation session held for new students with more than 24 credit hours who will primarily be attending classes at the UHV Katy instructional site. Registration and date information for our ROAR Katy Orientation session can be found below.

No. However, it is highly encouraged as it will help UHV Katy instructional site students transition smoothly into university life as a Jaguar. All students who attend ROAR Katy Orientation will receive a free UHV t-shirt at the end of the session.

Various resources and information will be shared at ROAR Katy Orientation. Academic resources specific to the Katy instructional site will be covered. Library essentials such as books, electronic resources, media, and virtual services also will be provided. Additionally, campus life, student services, security, and Jaguar pride and traditions will be discussed. A wide array of technical support information will be disseminated; this includes discussing the Help Desk, JagSpace, Microsoft Teams, and Office 365. Lastly, students will be able to ask Katy instructional site staff members questions specific to the campus.
