Orientation and Transition Programs – Summer 2025

ROAR First-Year Orientation, Overnight is an in-person opportunity for individuals to begin to express their roar at the University of Houston-Victoria. It is held for students who will primarily be attending classes at the Victoria campus, and will be in their first year of college with less than 24 credit hours. It is an event specifically designed for new Jaguars who want to discover everything our institution has to offer. At ROAR First-Year Orientation, Overnight students will learn about campus resources and opportunities and be prepared to acclimate and rise to success at UHV. Our ROAR First-Year Orientation, Overnight sessions will be held in-person at the Victoria campus.

There will be multiple in-person ROAR First-Year Orientation, Overnight sessions. Registration and date information for our ROAR First-Year Orientation, Overnight sessions can be found below.

  • Thursday, June 26 and Friday, June 27 
  • Friday, July 18 and Saturday, July 19
  • Friday, August 8 and Saturday, August 9

Yes, ROAR First-Year Orientation, Overnight is required for students who will be primarily attending classes at the Victoria campus and are in their first year of college with less than 24 credit hours. 

No. However, we do encourage you to, especially if you will be living on campus in the fall. It is an experience that will help you transition into living in our residence halls.

UHV will provide first-year students with a shower curtain and toilet paper for their overnight stay in campus housing. Students are encouraged to bring their own bedding including sheets, pillows, blankets, towels, and personal hygiene products.

Yes. However, we do encourage you to register for classes as soon as possible, as classes fill up quickly. Academic Advisors will be available to assist you with registering for classes. 

Yes, there is a charge for students and their family/guests to attend ROAR First-Year Orientation, Overnight. The participation fee is $100 for students, and $50 for each family member or guest.

The participation fees assist with the costs of providing a quality orientation program, amenities while on campus, and UHV swag.

Fees already paid are non-refundable. However, if needed, the funds can be applied to a different date if you need to reschedule. Please contact orientation@uhv.edu to reschedule your date. Please include your full name and Student ID number. 

Yes. First-Year students are required to attend ROAR First-Year Orientation, Overnight but are also welcome to attend ROAR Virtual Orientation if they choose. 

Various resources and information will be shared at ROAR First-Year Orientation, Overnight and Virtual sessions. Academic resources such as advising, degree plans, tutoring, writing assistance and the UHV Library will be covered. Additionally, financial aid, campus safety, student billing, campus life, student services, and Jaguar pride and traditions will be discussed with first-year students. Lastly, there will be several student, faculty, and staff panel discussions.

Attending the ROAR First-Year Orientation, Overnight will provide the greatest amount of resources and information for students entering college for the first time. 

ROAR Virtual Orientation is an online opportunity for transfer or online students to begin to express their roar at the University of Houston-Victoria. It is an event specifically designed for new Jaguars who want to discover everything our institution has to offer. At ROAR Virtual Orientation students will learn about campus resources and opportunities and be prepared to acclimate and rise to success at UHV. ROAR Virtual Orientation is held on Teams. 

There will be one ROAR Virtual Orientation session held prior to Fall classes starting. Registration information and date will be released soon. 

No. However, it is highly encouraged as it will help first-year students transition smoothly into university life. 

No, participating in ROAR Virtual Orientation is free.

You will work with your success coach (academic advisor) in the Student Success Center to register for classes. They will assist you with the process. Using your smart phone, follow the steps below:

  1. Search for “Navigate Student” and download the app.
  2. Search for “Victoria” and select the University of Houston-Victoria.
  3. Sign in with your UHV log in information. This log in is the same as your UHV email and myApps.
  4. Once the app opens, click “Appointments”, and schedule an advising appointment with your advisor in the Student Success Center.
  5. If you have questions about Navigate, or about meeting with your success coach (academic advisor) in the Student Success Center, email sschelp@uhv.edu. You can also visit the Navigate webpage for more information.

Yes. It is a requirement for all first-year students to attend Jaguar Journey Welcome Weekend. Jaguar Journey is held in Victoria the weekend before (August 21-23, 2025) classes begin for the fall semester and is required for all first-year students as part of their UNIV course. Incoming first-year students are automatically registered for Jaguar Journey. For more information on Jaguar Journey, email orientation@uhv.edu or visit Jaguar Journey.

We encourage you to register for classes as soon as possible, as classes fill up quickly. Preferably, you will work with your success coach (academic advisor) in the Student Success Center to register for classes in an advising session before attending a ROAR First-Year Orientation session.
