How will this transition benefit our students and the university community?

The Texas A&M University System is better suited to serve the needs of our rural community as well as offer our students the degree opportunities that will lead to regional jobs.

Will anything else change besides the name?

The name of the university will now be Texas A&M University-Victoria, as our institution will now be under the Texas A&M University System.

Our colors will remain red, black and gold, and jaX the jaguar will continue to be our mascot, however he might get an updated look.

What are the correct ways to refer to our university?

There are only two correct ways to refer to our university:

  1. Texas A&M University-Victoria
  2. A&M-Victoria

Where can we get updated logos, branding guidelines, etc.?

The Office of Marketing & Communications is redesigning the logos and branding guidelines and will soon have them available on the university website.

What will happen to all the UHV retail merchandise?

This merchandise will be slowly phased out and replaced with the new branding.

What do I do with all my UHV gear?

UHV is part of our story and history. You may continue to wear UHV gear, and we hope you will purchase new gear to help grow our name and brand within our community or the community in which you reside.

When will the full transition to Texas A&M University-Victoria be complete?

The transition will take immediate effect on September 1, 2025.

When will the UHV.edu website change take place?

The website transition is expected to be finalized by September 1. Communication will be ongoing, and updates will be provided throughout the process.

I run a department social media channel. When can I change the name?

The name change process is different for each platform. Please reach out to Marketing & Communications with questions.

Will this affect the existing cost of tuition?

No, the transition to the Texas A&M System will not change the existing cost of tuition.

Where should I tell people I graduated from? What should I put on my resume?

It is advisable to use Texas A&M University-Victoria, formerly known as University of Houston-Victoria.

How will this change be reflected on my transcript?

Beginning September 1, 2025, Texas A&M University-Victoria will appear on all new transcripts.

Can alumni request a diploma with the Texas A&M University-Victoria name?

Yes, beginning in September 2025, alumni may order a replacement diploma with the new university name through Parchment. The cost is $30 plus tax and ordering information is available on the Diplomas webpage under “Replacement Diplomas.”

How will the transition impact the December 2025 graduates, particularly their diplomas?

Students graduating in Fall 2025 or later who were enrolled during the transition will receive two diplomas:

  • One with the name University of Houston–Victoria
  • One with the name Texas A&M University–Victoria

This applies to graduates within six years of the name change, as required by a new state law effective September 1, 2025.

Will the change affect the value or recognition of my degree? Is my current diploma/degree still valid despite the transition and name change?

No matter the system, the university has and will continue to produce exceptional graduates. Yes, your degree and diploma are still valid.

What will it say on my transcript? How will this change my transcript?

Starting September 2025, official transcripts will reflect the new university name and feature Texas A&M University–Victoria branding.

While the final design is still being finalized, your transcript will continue to accurately display your academic history, including all credit hours, grades, and completed coursework, none of which will be affected by the change.

A notation will appear on the back of the transcript explaining the university’s transition.

Will it change my degree?

If you finish your degree this summer, your diploma will say University of Houston-Victoria. Beginning September 1, all degrees granted will reflect the new name: Texas A&M University–Victoria.

Will I still be able to get my UHV transcript after the change?

The process for ordering transcripts will not change and all your credit hours will be accounted for as they always have been. Your academic program is specifically protected under the legislation.

If you need additional confirmation, the Registrar’s Office can provide an official letter explaining the name change and how it affects your transcript.

If I want a UHV degree, can I be sure I get one? If I want a Texas A&M University-Victoria degree, can I do that?

Students who graduate in Summer 2025 will receive a diploma with the name University of Houston-Victoria. Students who graduate in Fall 2025 or later will receive a diploma with the new name, Texas A&M University-Victoria.

We can’t change the name on a diploma once it’s been issued, but if you graduated with a University of Houston-Victoria diploma and want one with the Texas A&M University-Victoria name, you can order it starting September 1, 2025.

Both diploma versions are official and valid. Your degree and academic records stay the same, no matter which name appears on your diploma.

Will I still be able to get my UHV transcript after the change?

The process for ordering transcripts will not change, and all your credit hours will be accounted for as they always have been. Your academic program is specifically protected under the legislation.

How will the transition change my physical degree? If I want a UHV degree, how can I get one? If I want a Texas A&M University-Victoria degree, can I do that?

There will be no changes to previously issued diplomas. If you would like a copy of your diploma with the University of Houston-Victoria name, you must place your order by August 31, 2025. Orders placed after that date will display the new Texas A&M University-Victoria name.

If you graduated under the University of Houston-Victoria name and would like a Texas A&M University-Victoria diploma, you may order one starting September 1, 2025. All diplomas must be ordered online via Parchment. The cost is $30 plus tax.

Please rest assured that both diploma versions are valid and officially recognized. Your academic records remain accurate and accessible regardless of the institution name displayed on your diploma.

Will employers or licensing boards still be able to verify my UHV degree?

Yes. Degree verification will remain available through the National Student Clearinghouse or by contacting the Student Records Office, regardless of the university’s name at the time of your graduation.

Can I request a letter explaining the name change for employers or other purposes?

Yes. Starting September 1, 2025, you may request a letter explaining the name change using the Enrollment/Degree Verification Request Form. Select “Other” and write that you're requesting a university name change letter. The form can be returned to studentrecords@uhv.edu.

What resources are available to help us answer students’ questions about the name change?

Students should be referred to the appropriate department or office based on their question. Please refer to the university directory for contact information.

Will this impact the university’s reputation and rankings?

We believe that this transition will positively impact and support our efforts to reach and retain new and future students.

What will happen to my university email address?

It will remain the same for a while. The university will update faculty and staff email addresses soon to reflect the new university name.

Will athletic uniforms change?

Athletic uniforms and equipment will be updated to reflect the new university name.

Will our athletic teams remain in the Red River Athletic Conference?

Yes, our athletic teams will remain in the Red River Athletic Conference.

Will our athletics teams remain a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA)?

Yes, our athletic teams we will remain in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

Will our logos and colors change?

Yes, the logo will change to reflect the new university name and unified updated branding, however the colors and mascot will remain the same.
