Severe Weather
Severe weather has the potential to occur year-round in Victoria. Thunderstorms can bring strong winds, tornadoes, hail, lightning and flash flooding.
Weather Definitions
Watch: Conditions are favorable for the development of severe weather. Closely monitor the situation in case conditions worsen
Warning: Severe weather has been observed. Listen closely to instructions provided by emergency officials, weather radios, and other alert mechanisms. Seek shelter immediately
Weather Events
Tornado
- Go into an interior room or hallway on lowest floor, if possible
- Stay away from windows, doors, and outside walls
- A vehicle or modular building is not good protection. Plan to go quickly into a building with a strong foundation, if possible
- Stay in the shelter location until "All Clear" has been given
Lightning
- Try to seek shelter indoors or under a protective roof if lightning is in the area
- If stuck outside, avoid pools or standing under tall objects, such as trees
