M.Ed. in Adult and Higher Education

The discipline track will provide you the knowledge and training you need to teach at the postsecondary level.

Offered completely online, the program allows you to tailor your studies to a subject area of your choosing. If you are interested in this degree track, please contact the program coordinator for more details on the subject areas you can pursue at UHV.

Requirements for Admission

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • The prerequisites required by the education college’s admissions policy
  • Access to a computer, webcam, and high-speed Internet as well as basic computer and word-processing skills

 

Degrees You Can Earn

MEd Adult & Higher Education, Discipline Track: In addition to the requirements you must meet for the MEd in adult education and higher education, you will take 18 credit hours in a specialization area of your choosing. If you are interested in this degree track, please contact the program coordinator for more details on the subject areas you can pursue at UHV.

Discipline Track Degree Plan

Core:

Official degree plan will need to be completed with your Faculty Advisor and Educator Preparation Office (EPO) staff. All required signatures must be recorded before it is official.

18 semester hours

  • AHED 6331 Program Planning and Development in AHED
  • AHED 6334 Foundations of Adult Education
  • AHED 6338 Research in Adult and Higher Education
  • AHED 6346 Student Services in Higher Education
  • AHED 6353 Educational Leadership in Organizations
  • AHED Elective by advisor approval

Plan:

18 semester hours:

Students must complete 18 hours in a single discipline.

UHV offers 18 graduate credits in the following disciplines:

Biology*, Computer Science, Communication, Criminal Justice, English, History, Literacy, Management, Marketing, Math, and Psychology.

Note: The AHED program does not plan, advise, or coordinate courses offered outside the program. Students accumulate these hours on their own.
Biology* - some classes may be offered only face-to-face and only in Victoria.

Considerations

If you’re interested in the discipline track, keep two things in mind:

  • UHV limits the number of credits that can be transferred and applied to a UHV degree. Consult the program coordinator as you plan your degree to make sure your plan of study is approved.
  • Eighteen hours is the typical, minimum amount many colleges require of job applicants, but some may have different requirements. If you know where you want to teach, be sure to check the school’s hiring requirements.
