MS Cybersecurity Admissions

Approved University Admission to Graduate Studies
Official Transcripts (must include Undergraduate degree)
A resume reflecting work experience and educational background
1-page personal statement/essay outlining career goals, interest in cybersecurity, and relevant experience.
Minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). Applicants with lower GPAs may be considered based on professional experience and additional qualifications.
Letters of Recommendation (optional but encouraged) from academic or professional references

Students should submit official transcripts to the Office of Admissions. Program specific requirements such as essays, letter of recommendation, resumes, and/or writing samples should be submitted directly to Graduate Admissions.

Prerequisites

Evidence of having completed undergraduate or graduate coursework in the following areas:

  • s.h. of Calculus/Algebra/Discrete Structures/Discrete Mathematics
  • 3 s.h. of Statistics
  • 6 s.h. of programming or data structures

(Documentation of prior learning which satisfies program prerequisite knowledge in part of full is required for determination of equivalencies and/or waivers. The student may directly submit to the Cybersecurity Graduate Program Director a portfolio of work for evaluation for exempting one or more prerequisite/leveling course. Such work may include non-credit or non-academic course work, certifications held and other experiential knowledge in subject area. Such exemption will be solely at the discretion of the Cybersecurity Graduate Program Director, and may involve interviews, tests, or contact of references. No such waiver for non-academic experience will be done for any part of the 30 semester hours beyond the pre-requisite/leveling courses).

Thesis Track (optional)

COSC 6309 Master’s Thesis 

Students who are academically strong and wish to advance their knowledge and contribute in a particular area of cybersecurity may choose the thesis track. Approval by program director is needed for thesis track and a minimum overall “B” average in the program is required. Students approved for a thesis will register COSC 6308 and COSC 6309 during two consecutive semesters in their second year of studies.
