UHV hosts virtual sessions to assist transfer students
As the summer progresses and students get things in order to start taking classes in the fall, the University of Houston-Victoria is hosting a series of virtual sessions to help transfer students through the admission process.
UHV’s Transfer Tuesday events will be held every Tuesday throughout the summer to August 6. The free events will be held on Microsoft Teams either at 11 a.m. or 5 p.m. To attend the event, a link to sign up and receive a meeting link is available at www.uhv.edu/admissions/events.
“Our goal for Transfer Tuesdays is to inform incoming and potential transfer students about the opportunities available at UHV and to help them navigate the transfer process,” said Oscar Torres, UHV associate director of enrollment management and new student experience. “We want our students to know that we’re here and ready to help make the transfer process as smooth as possible.”
The university has already hosted a few Transfer Tuesday events, and attendees were able to work with UHV recruiters to learn about program options at the university and get their questions about the transferring and admissions requirements answered.
“The sessions serve as a kind of security blanket that lets students know they can get help when they need it,” Torres said. “Often times, when we speak with transfer students coming to a university from a community college, there can be a kind of culture shock. We want to ease that anxiety and shock by making the transition a smooth one.”
UHV has memoranda of understanding and transfer agreements with several community colleges in the Golden Crescent and Houston areas, including Victoria College, Alvin Community College, Blinn College, Coastal Bend College, Houston Community College, Lone Star College and Wharton County Junior College. The university also accepts transfer students from any accredited university or college. Students who wish to transfer to UHV and take classes at the Victoria campus need at least 12 transferable credit hours. To take classes at UHV Katy, students must be able to transfer 45 hours or more, as only courses for juniors, seniors and graduate students are available at the Katy instructional site, said Angela Simmons, associate director of enrollment management.
“Joining this information session will help transfer students to feel more secure regarding degree program options at UHV,” Simmons said. “Our goal is create a seamless pathway to take next steps when applying to become a part of the UHV Jaguar family.”
