UHV offers options to support university during Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is almost here, and members of the community can help the University of Houston-Victoria achieve a new record and help the university earn an extra $10,000 in donations.

Every year, UHV takes part in Giving Tuesday, a national initiative that encourages people to give to local charities and nonprofits on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. During the past few years, UHV has received record-breaking numbers of donations, and the university is hoping to do the same this year on Nov. 29.

“We’re very thankful for all the support UHV has received over the past several years on previous Giving Tuesdays,” UHV President Bob Glenn said. “It’s so encouraging to see the community come together with our students and alumni to support their local university and higher education. We are grateful for every one of those individuals and companies who gave their support, and we hope even more people will support our cause this year.”

This year, UHV’s goal is to receive donations from at least 300 individuals during the 24-hour period of Giving Tuesday. In order to encourage more donations, UHV also is receiving support from KMH Wealth Management LLC and Keller & Associates CPAs PLLC in the form of a $10,000 matching challenge. The funds will be donated to UHV if the university is able to meet its donation goal during Giving Tuesday. If UHV meets its goal and receives the challenge funds, the nine areas that received the most donations will receive an extra $1,000 from the challenge funds.

“UHV is a great asset for our community, and it is staggering to see how far the university has come in the past few years,” said David Faskas, chief investment officer and chief financial planning officer for KMH Wealth Management LLC and a 2012 UHV alumnus. “There are so many benefits to having a successful university in our community, and we are glad to continue to support UHV’s fundraising efforts. We hope lots of people will take advantage of this matching challenge and join us in supporting UHV.”

UHV will have multiple options available to encourage individuals to donate, said Kelsey Norgard, UHV director of alumni relations and annual giving. For those who want to give in person, there will be several locations set up on UHV’s campus throughout the day, including in University Commons, University Center, University West and Jaguar Hall. In addition, a donation table will be available at The Box Coffee Bar at Airline Road and Laurent Street from 8 a.m. to noon and at Crossroads Bank from noon to 4 p.m. UHV Katy also will have a giving booth available from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Donors also can contribute online at www.uhv.edu/alumni-friends.

Donations can be designated to support a variety of needs. During the 2021 Giving Tuesday drive, the three most popular donation categories were the JP’s Market student food pantry, the Student Emergency Fund and the International Alumni Scholarship.
