University officially opens campus Health & Wellness Center

Located on the southeast corner of Red River and Ben Wilson streets, the facility spans more than 39,000 square feet and features two levels filled with multiple spaces for recreational activities, a weightlifting area, indoor track and two courts. The Health & Wellness Center will also have spaces dedicated for health education and learning. Through a partnership with DeTar Healthcare System, the facility also houses DeTar Medical Group Primary Care East, a clinic providing primary care services. The total cost of the project was $29,274,000, with about half of the cost paid for with student fees, the other half with state bond proceeds along with a $2 million donor gift from the M.G. & Lillie A. Johnson Foundation.

The University of Houston-Victoria, located in the heart of the Coastal Bend region since 1973 in Victoria, Texas, offers courses leading to more than 50 academic programs in the schools of Arts & Sciences; Business Administration; and Education, Health Professions & Human Development. UHV provides face-to-face classes at its Victoria campus, as well as an instructional site in Katy, Texas, and online classes that students can take from anywhere. UHV supports the American Association of State Colleges and Universities Opportunities for All initiative to increase awareness about state colleges and universities and the important role they have in providing a high-quality and accessible education to an increasingly diverse student population, as well as contributing to regional and state economic development.
