A new piece of art has been installed at the University of Houston-Victoria in the Kay’s Grove memorial garden. The piece, titled Lotus, is a sculpture made by renowned Texas sculptor Jesus Bautista Moroles in 1982. The granite sculpture was inspired by Moroles' time he spent in Italy observing marble carvings and growing up around his uncle's masonry workshop. Often describing his art as a discussion between man and nature, the granite sculpture represents a flower set in a garden. When Kay's Grove was conceived, UH Public Art was asked to include art that would complement the garden and echo the type of art that Kay Walker appreciated. Carved by human hand with the aid of machine, the piece now stands at Kay's Grove between University Center and University North. Kay’s Grove is a contemplation garden created by community donations in honor of the late Kay Kerr Walker, a longtime UHV supporter and a former UH System Regent.
