A&M chancellor visits university, unveils new branding

As the University of Houston-Victoria prepares to transition into the Texas A&M University System, Victoria’s university has welcomed the A&M Chancellor to campus and unveiled the new logo and mascot look that will be in use starting Sept. 1.
A&M System Chancellor Glenn Hegar visited the university campus on Thursday to welcome it into the system. On Sept. 1, UHV will become Texas A&M University-Victoria and will become the 12th university in the A&M System. During his visit, Hegar toured campus, offered greetings to the university’s supporters and the Victoria community and attended a luncheon with community leaders.
“It’s an honor to be here in Victoria and to meet the students, faculty, and staff who make this university such an important part of the community,” Hegar said. “As the University of Houston-Victoria prepares to join the Texas A&M University System, I want everyone here to know how much we value the role you play in this region and in our state’s future. Together, we’re going to build on your success and expand opportunities for even more Texans right here in Victoria.”
As part of welcoming the university into the A&M System, Hegar also helped to unveil the new branding for what will be Texas A&M University-Victoria, including the new official logo and a redesigned jaguar. The university’s staff worked closely with the A&M System’s branding office to create a look that was true to Victoria’s identity while also aligning with the system.
“These new logos highlight the new, forward-looking future for Victoria’s university,” UHV President Bob Glenn said. “As we make the shift into the Texas A&M System, we will honor our roots while working to build new and exciting things to serve our students and the region for years to come.”
The university logo features a rich red, which serves as a nod to the university’s past and emphasizes its rich history in the City of Victoria. This will be the only red logo in the Texas A&M System. The clean, modern typography showcases the university’s commitment to moving forward.
The new jaguar is a unified design that will be used both by the university’s academic departments and Athletics. It presents a bold, united front to the local community and beyond.
Both the jaguar and the university logo will be put into use once the official transition takes place on Sept. 1.
