UHV to welcome new students to Jaguar Day
As the fall semester draws to a close and high school seniors begin to consider their options for attending college next year, the University of Houston-Victoria is hosting a Jaguar Day event to offer a chance to see the university in person.
Jaguar Day will be a free come-and-go event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7. Check-in for the event will be at UHV University Commons, 3006 N. Ben Wilson St. Students will be able to learn about UHV and tour the campus throughout the day.
“Jaguar Day is a great opportunity for students and parents to preview all of the great things that UHV has to offer,” said Karla DeCuir, interim vice president for enrollment management. “Not only are we one of the most affordable universities in Texas, but we’re also the most friendly! We hope that students and their families take the nice, short drive to see our beautiful campus in the historic city of Victoria.”
During the open-house event, students and their families will be able to tour campus to see both the academic areas as well as the residence halls and recreational options. Attendees also will receive a free lunch buffet in Jaguar Hall Dining and a free T-shirt while supplies last.
“We are excited to welcome students to UHV and show them what being a jaguar is all about,” said Oscar Torres, UHV associate director of enrollment management and new student experience. “Taking the time to walk around campus and experience the location and atmosphere allows them to see themselves here as a student.”
In addition to tours, attendees will have the opportunity to attend an academic presentation by UHV faculty members as well as speak with current students about the UHV experience. Students who are applying to attend UHV can also speak to staff members from important offices, including Financial Aid and Admissions.
“We want students to come away with an understanding of what UHV can provide for them academically, financially and professionally,” Torres said. “College is a huge investment, and we want our students to be reassured that UHV is the right choice for them. We are all dedicated to helping them reach their goals.”
