UHV Small Business Development Center to host webinar series
The University of Houston-Victoria Small Business Development Center is launching a Spanish-language webinar series all throughout the month of September.
In line with Hispanic Heritage Month, the Smal Business Development Center will be celebrating the impact Hispanic entrepreneurs have on the U.S. economy by hosting virtual free seminars from Sept. 10 to 26 to provide valuable information and training to small business owners and entrepreneurs, with a focus on serving the Hispanic business community.
“As a business owner, you don’t suddenly wake up with all the skills and knowledge that you need to be successful,” said Jean Smith, the center’s training coordinator. “The webinars range from obtaining loans to increasing sales and accessing capital programs.”
In addition, the seminars will touch on digital marketing, leadership building, preparing for tax season, how to maintain sustainable development, how to start a new business, and ways to sell a business as well as succession planning, Smith added.
The seminars were made possible through a partnership with other small business development centers across the network, which stretches from El Paso to the Gulf Cast and down to the Rio Grande area. Speakers for the seminars will be coming from various other centers, each specialized in their unique topics, Smith said.
“As a large population of our local business community is Hispanic owned, we recognized the need to offer training and resources in Spanish,” Smith said. “We have done Spanish webinars on our own in the past, and our hope is that by collaborating, we can reach a greater audience.”
The webinar series is open to the public and is not limited to the Victoria area, Smith said. Individuals from across the state of Texas and the nation are encouraged to participate, she added. Registration is available at the UHV Small Business Development Center’s website, www.uhvsbdc.com.
“The biggest thing about this series, and not just with our center but with the other centers that we are collaborating with, is that there has been an identified need,” said Lindsay Young, the center’s director. “We’re hoping to feed that need with the classes that we will be holding.”
