UHV hosts Haunted Hall for Halloween celebration

Spooky season is here, and the University of Houston-Victoria is getting ready to celebrate with a haunted hall experience.

The event is a free haunted house that the university hosts on campus annually. This year’s event will be preceded by a Spooky Wookie Con hosted by the university’s Anime Nuts International Media Entertainment student organization.

“We’re excited to bring Haunted Hall back this year and give our students a chance to have fun while celebrating the spooky season,” said Zion Walker, UHV student involvement coordinator. “We tried to up the spooky factor this year while still making it fun, and we are looking forward to having fun with the community.”

Visitors to the Haunted Hall will come to University North, where groups will be guided by candlelight through the attraction. The event will feature UHV students and employees as actors.

Before the Haunted Hall, there will be Spooky Wookie Con, an event hosted in University Commons by the university’s anime student organization. The convention will feature a variety of vendors, games, food trucks and a costume contest. The convention will be from 4 to 10 p.m. on Oct. 31 and from 3 to 10 p.m. on Nov. 1.

“Students always have so much fun with the university’s Halloween activities,” said Freddie Cantu, director of UHV Student Involvement. “They love getting to wear costumes on campus and get a chance to relax and have fun.”

The Haunted Hall and Spooky Wookie Con are just two events the university is hosting during the week of Pumpkin Palooza. The university also will hold a variety of activities for students, including jaX’s Scare Fair, a Ghosts vs. Zombies intramural game and a costume contest during the men’s and women’s soccer home games. The university also has an office decorating competition with campus trick-or-treat that allows students to go to various offices and get free candy.
