UHV faculty, students host counseling association meet-and-greet, advocate for mental health

Allen, Adams along with Darla Holmberg-Abel, a UHV adjunct professor from the College of Education & Health Professions, hosted a La Bahia Counseling Association meet-and-greet lunch meeting on Oct. 4 at the Gulf Bend Center. In attendance were several current and former students as well as Elena Torres of the UHV Counseling Center and other mental health professionals. The La Bahia Counseling Association is a chapter of the Texas Counseling Association that seeks to provide opportunities for community engagement with mental health professionals, students and others who are interested in the field. It supports ongoing professional development and provides training aimed at advancing advocacy efforts for those in the counseling profession at local, state and national levels. Students in UHV's Professional Counseling program, who are preparing for state licensure or certification and already working or interning in mental health, play a crucial role in the organization
