UHV concludes anniversary celebration with exhibit
As the University of Houston-Victoria marks the conclusion of its 50th Anniversary, the university is hosting an exhibit in the UHV Library to showcase some of the many little things that make up its rich history.
UHV: A 50-Year History, opened on April 17 and will remain in place throughout the summer months. The exhibit will be available for viewing throughout the UHV Library in UHV University Commons, 3006 N. Ben Wilson St. The display was created and made possible through many donations and collaborative efforts of the UHV Library, Victoria Regional History Center, past and present faculty and staff. The Victoria Regional History Center is a joint collaboration between UHV and Victoria College. The display is free and open to the public.
“When celebrating a big anniversary like this, it’s important to take time to look back at all the things that helped shape what UHV has become today,” said Brittany Marsh, UHV senior director of Marketing & Communications. “There’s more to it than just the big, monumental things like opening new buildings or Athletic championships. There are lots of little things over the years that have led to today and will help us reach the goals of our future.”
The exhibit will be constantly expanding as new features and pieces are added throughout the period. It currently features several areas of UHV’s history and development. Some of the highlighted items include the Center for Children, which used to offer childcare for the community; UHV Athletics; and technology changes over the years. Additionally, a section of the exhibit honors the influential women who played a significant role in UHV’s growth and development.
One of the goals of the exhibit is to help catalogue and aggregate items that are part of the university’s past so they will be available for future celebrations and for generations to look back and research UHV’s past. Individuals who would like to contribute items and information about UHV’s history can contact Brittany Rodriguez at rodriguezba2@uhv.edu.
“UHV’s story is an interesting one, and it’s tied to Victoria’s history as well,” Marsh said. “We want to thank the community for their support through the years, and we look forward to sharing this exhibit with them as we look forward to our next steps forward.”
