UHV students present research project at Rice University

UHV graduate students Almas Vishram of Houston, left, and Carla Dagher of Katy presented research on July 18 at the conclusion of the NEWT Research Experience for Teachers hosted at Rice University from June 5 to July 18. During the six-week internship period, 17 interns were chosen from teachers in the Houston; El Paso; Phoenix, Ariz.; and New Haven, Conn. Areas to work on research projects in a nanotechnology research laboratory focused on water treatment. Dagher and Vishram worked with other students on a research project titled Biostability and Cytotoxicity of Aluminum Nanocrystals. After they presented their research, Dagher will attend fall lesson planning workshops, and teach the research-based lessons at a spring NanoAcademy workshop for her students. Dagher is a chemistry teacher in the Katy Independent School District and will be putting together a lesson plan that matches TEKS requirements.
