Students meet employers at cybersecurity event

Students, faculty members and industry representatives listen to a panel discussion on Oct. 18 led by employers from cybersecurity companies. The University of Houston-Victoria hosted its second Meet the Employer event at UHV Katy from 6-7:30 p.m. on Oct. 18. Nearly 200 people attended including students from UHV, Houston Community College and Lonestar College. The program was led by UHV administrators and faculty members including Karla DeCuir, interim vice president for enrollment management; Dmitri Sobolev, interim dean of the UHV College of Natural & Applied Science; Yun Wan, chair of the computer and information sciences department; Robert Hernandez, a UHV recruiter; and Daya Nand, associate professor of computer science. UHV hosts these events to offer opportunities for industry leaders in the Greater Houston area to connect with UHV students who are looking for internships and employment. The event was sponsored by Occidental Petroleum and Cloudspace.

The University of Houston-Victoria, located in the heart of the Coastal Bend region since 1973 in Victoria, Texas, offers courses leading to more than 50 academic programs in the schools of Arts & Sciences; Business Administration; and Education, Health Professions & Human Development. UHV provides face-to-face classes at its Victoria campus, as well as an instructional site in Katy, Texas, and online classes that students can take from anywhere. UHV supports the American Association of State Colleges and Universities Opportunities for All initiative to increase awareness about state colleges and universities and the important role they have in providing a high-quality and accessible education to an increasingly diverse student population, as well as contributing to regional and state economic development.
