Academic Departments

The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences is central to the teaching, research, and service interests of the greater UHV community, a dynamic destination university in the Coastal Bend region of Texas. We prepare students with the skills and intellectual leadership needed in the public and private sector. Special emphasis is placed on providing students with the critical thinking and technological skills necessary for lifelong success, active citizenship, and global awareness.

Everyone has dreams of where they want their careers to take them. Everyone has interests and passions, different skills and aptitudes. Figuring out what you want to study starts with aligning your dreams, passions, and aptitudes with what is needed in the global economy. The faculty at UHV Liberal Arts and Social Sciences can help you find your future.

Multidisciplinary Studies Department

The Department of Multidisciplinary Studies is the home to programs which engage students to look beyond a single area and to instead investigate how culture and ideas can be applied in many areas. Our graduate program in Interdisciplinary Studies and our undergraduate programs in Applied Arts and Sciences as well as University Studies allow students to create highly flexible degree plans around their unique goals and experiences. Our programs in Spanish and Communication Design engage students in inquiry about language, art, culture, communication, and meaning. Additionally, The Multidisciplinary Department coordinates the University Seminar Program for first-year students. Please reach out to Justin Bell if you have any questions.”
