Behavior Analyst Certification Board® Credentialing Requirements
The M. Ed. in Special Education ABA is aligned with the BACB® course work requirements for credentialing as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst® (BCBA). The following courses found in the M.Ed. Special Education ABA Degree Plan meet the Board’s course work requirements: SPED 6325, SPED 6331, SPED 6332, SPED 6335, SPED 6338, SPED 6340, SPED 6346. The chart on the following page reflects the content area covered in each course. Students seeking certification as a behavior analyst will independently complete supervision experience hours to qualify to sit for the BCBA® exam. Currently, UHV does not provide supervision for experience hours. Students must find a supervisor on their own. Typically, students in this program are already working in clinics and schools and have arranged to receive supervision from qualified BCBAs at their work site. Please note according to BACB requirements, you cannot start counting supervision hours until you start taking one of the classes in the ABA course sequence listed above. Don’t confuse this with the first class in the master’s program if you are seeking your master’s.
To view the BCBA Handbook which includes the requirements for credentialing set by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board® go to the following link: BOARD CERTIFIED BEHAVIOR ANALYST - Behavior Analyst Certification Board (bacb.com) Students are responsible for following BACB® requirements for credentialing.
When applying to the BACB® to take the BCBA exam students choose Pathway 2 Behavior Analytic Coursework. The SPED ABA program at UHV is VCS # 51123.
Texas Licensing Requirements - Once you get your BCBA credential you will need to also get your license to practice behavior analysis in Texas. If you do not reside in Texas, be sure to check state laws regarding your state’s licensure requirements. You can find information about being licensed in Texas at the following link.
