The Writing Lab
UHV’s Writing Lab is designed to give students the maximum amount of support during the writing process. Unlike writing consultations, students don’t need a complete draft to receive assistance—they can just come on in and start writing!
How Does It Work?
In the Writing Lab, trained undergraduate consultants will offer advice as students work on their papers. The consultants will then give the student time to incorporate this advice and feedback into their writing before checking in on them again. So a consultant may spend a couple of minutes offering suggestions about thesis statements to you before going on to someone else. You can then request more feedback and suggestions as you’re writing. Unlike in writing consultations, there’s no set time limit for how long you can stay in the Writing Lab. You can spend the whole afternoon working on a paper if you want.
What are the Hours?
The Writing Lab is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Where is it Located?
The Writing Lab is located in the West Building, room 133.
How Can I Prepare for the Lab?
While the Writing Center has computers, it would be most beneficial if you brought your own laptop or tablet computer. Having the assignment prompt accessible is also helpful. Besides those, all you need to bring is yourself.
