I’ve been suspended.  What do I do now?

Readmission from Academic Suspension

You may appeal a suspension according to the following guidelines:

1.  A student would be eligible to re-enroll after the suspension period. 

  • Students placed on first academic suspension at the end of a fall semester are not eligible to re-enroll until the following summer.
  • Students placed on first academic suspension at the end of a spring semester are not eligible to re-enroll until the following spring.
  • Students placed on first academic suspension at the end of a summer session are not eligible to re-enroll until the following spring.

First Academic Suspension Appeal:  Students on a 1st academic suspension wanting to return early from the suspension period must submit an appeal to their academic school.  To submit an appeal, log in to the eForms system and see the “Academic Appeals” section for information/instructions.

2.  If suspended a second time, the student may not re-enroll for a period of at least one year (12 months) and must submit a petition in writing to the academic dean for readmission. Example:  Placed on second suspension after the Fall 2009 term; eligible to re-enroll Spring 2011 upon successful appeal to the academic dean.

Second Academic Suspension Appeal:  Students on a 2nd academic suspension wanting to return early from the suspension period must submit an appeal to their academic school.  To submit an appeal, log in to the eForms system and see the “Academic Appeals” section for information/instructions

3.  If suspended a third time, a student may not re-enroll at UH-Victoria for a minimum of three years.  Students may appeal to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs for reinstatement after the third year.  Example:  Placed on third suspension after the Fall 2008 term; eligible to appeal for reinstatement after the Fall 2011 term.

Third Academic Suspension Appeal:  Students on a 3rd academic suspension wanting to return early from the suspension period must submit an appeal to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs.  To submit an appeal, submit a letter of appeal and supporting documentation to the Provost office..

 

How often should I make an appointment to see an advisor?

You are required to seek academic advisement from your School when you reach 45 hrs.  After your first semester in your respective school, you are not required to seek advisement, but it is recommended that you meet with your advisor each registration period.

Do I have to be Core Complete to transfer?

You are not required to be Core Curriculum Complete at the time of transfer.  You will simply take the remaining courses through UHV or a local Community College.

When is the last day I may drop a class or withdraw for the semester?

The Academic Calendar informs you of important dates during the semester such as the last day to drop/withdraw or the last day to apply for graduation.

Are Freshmen required to live on campus?

Yes, the university requires all students with less than 60 completed semester credit hours or under 21 years of age to reside in the university residence halls. 

 

Where can I see my class schedule?

Log in to Jagspace, click on the myUHV Self Service tile, Click on the Academic Records/Enrollment tile and then click My Class Schedule from the menu located on the right.

 

How do I contact my instructor?  What do I do if I’m sick?

Look closely at your course syllabus for the class attendance policy. If you are required to notify your professor, please contact them ASAP via their preferred method of communication and (if possible) provide a copy of a doctor’s note.  Get the class notes from a trusted friend or source.

 

How do I calculate my gpa?  Where do I find it?

Log in to Jagspace, click on the myUHV Self Service tile, Click on the Academic Records/Enrollment tile and then click View Unofficial Transcript from the menu located on the right. Select Unofficial Report under report type and then click view report. Once the report is generated, click view report to view the transcript; cumulative GPA will be listed at the end of the transcript. 

 

You can calculate your gpa using the following formula:

 ____semester hrs. of the grade of “A”_______  x 4 grade points

____semester hrs. of the grade of “B”_______  x 3 grade points

____semester hrs. of the grade of “C”________x 2 grade points

____semester hrs. of the grade of “D”_______ x 1 grade points

For example:

__22__semester hrs. of the grade of “A”_______ x 4 = 88 grade points

__6___semester hrs. of the grade of “B”_______ x 3 = 18 grade points

_12__semester hrs. of the grade of “C”________x 2 = 24 grade points

__3__semester hrs. of the grade of “D”_______ x 1 = 3 grade points

__3__semester hrs. of the grade of “F”_______ x 0 = 0 grade points

 

GPA = 133/46 = 2.89

 

Do I need to bring anything to an advising appointment?

Prior to visiting an advisor, you must have an active application and prior college transcripts.

  

What are UD and LD Electives?

LD – Lower Division electives are community college level; freshman/1000 level and sophomore/2000 level

UD – Upper Division electives are university level; junior/3000 level and senior/4000 level

 

I am unable to register for a class, what do I do?

Log into your myUHV Self Service to confirm that there are no holds. If no holds are present, you can complete an add/drop form to request enrollment in a course.

How do I transfer my credit?

Official transfer transcripts must be sent to the UHV admissions office.
