UHV Student Campus Climate Survey

To better understand the scope and nature of sexual violence on campus, the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) participated in a UH System Sexual Assault Campus Climate Survey conducted by the Educational Advisory Board (EAB) during the Spring 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters.

Student Training and Prevention

Our goal is to ensure that faculty, staff and students understand and know their rights and responsibilities to help maintain a discriminatory-free environment at UHV.  We provide multiple training opportunities both online through our mandatory training program as well as face-to-face training to various university groups.

Salutations (Student Sexual Misconduct Online Training)

All new students (undergraduate and graduate) must complete Salutations online training.  The training provides information on the UH System Sexual Misconduct Policy, procedures, and resources. Salutations informs students of their rights, responsibilities, options and resources when dealing with sexual assault and other forms of sexual misconduct.  New students will receive an email with further instructions for completing this training. We encourage student groups to get involved and work with us to stop, prevent, and remedy any sex discrimination on campus.

Freshman Seminar Class Presentations

Every semester, the Title IX Office visits with freshman seminar classes and presents on issues related to sexual misconduct, provides information about services and answers student questions on the University of Houston System Sexual Misconduct Policy. Each UHV faculty member is also required to provide a non-discrimination statement with the contact information of the Title IX Office to students in their class syllabus.

Student Focus Groups

The Title IX Office holds specialized sessions with students groups such as student workers and Resident Assistants, student organizations and extracurricular groups to share information about their rights and responsibilities as well as available services.

Employee Training and Prevention

New Faculty and Employee Orientations

At the orientations for new faculty and employees, the Title IX/Equal Opportunity Coordinator presents information about policies related to Title IX and Sexual Misconduct as well as Harassment and Discrimination. Advanced sessions are also available upon request to provide additional guidance to staff, faculty, supervisors, student leaders and campus organizations. 

Mandatory Online Training

All employees are required to complete annual mandatory training (see University of Houston System Employee Development and Training Policy). New hires at UHV are required to complete mandatory training within 30 days. Training topics include information on UHV policies, employment discrimination, sexual harassment, Campus Security Authorities, Anonymous online reporting, and the Clery Act. Advanced Faculty and Staff Training

The UHV Title IX Office offers specialized training beyond mandatory new-hire policy training. Advanced training sessions last 90-120 minutes and help staff and faculty recognize warning signs, interact with reporting parties, fulfill reporting obligations, understand available services and direct affected parties to appropriate resources. The training includes interactive, trauma-informed reporting simulations and incorporates the most recent Climate Survey data to make the training campus-specific. 

Technology Accessibility Training

UHV provides on-campus workshops, webinar discussion groups and individual self-guided resources (Skills on Demand) to help faculty and staff achieve technology accessibility. Skills on Demand provides 24/7 resources for individuals to self-study about topics that are targeted to specific professional functions.
