TSI Assessment

All incoming college students are required to take the TSI Assessment (unless already exempt). The TSI Assessment is a program designed to help determine college-level coursework readiness in the general areas of reading, writing and mathematics. The TSI Assessment program also will help determine what type of course(s) or intervention will best meet the student's needs to become better prepared for college-level coursework if they are not ready.

Testing Services offers the TSI Assessment during scheduled administrations. To view available testing dates, register, and pay for the TSI Assessment, visit RegisterBlast. The fee schedule is listed below.

One subject $11.50
Two subjects $20.50
Three subjects $30.50

NOTE: Students taking the TSI Assessment must complete the Pre-Assessment Activity prior to taking the exam.

Students needing to take the TSI Assessment should follow these steps:

  1. Complete the TSI Pre-Assessment Activity.
  2. Choose a testing date and pay for the exam at RegisterBlast.
  3. Arrive at your appointment or test administration on time. Examinees that arrive late may not be allowed to test.
  4. Bring a valid form of identification (e.g., current driver’s license, military ID, passport, state-issued ID card). Examinees who do not present a valid photo ID will not be allowed to test.

 

TSI Score Retrieval  

Students who have taken the TSI Assessment at another institution may request to have their scores retrieved by filling out the TSI Score Release Form and sending it to Testing Services.

 

Remote Testing

UHV students are permitted to take the TSI Assessment at a remote location when traveling to UHV in Victoria, Texas would pose a hardship for the student and their family. Students needing a remotely administered TSI Assessment should complete the following steps:

  1. Complete the TSI Pre-Assessment Activity.
  2. Contact local colleges and universities to find a TSI Assessment/Accuplacer Remote Testing Site.
  3. Once a remote site is located, reigister for the TSI Assessment Remote Voucher on RegisterBlast. The voucher fee is $20.50.
  4. A Remote Testing Voucher will be sent to the email address provided at registration. It will contain test registration and payment instructions for the selected testing site. Students are responsible for any proctoring fees at the testing site.

 

Things to Know Before Taking the TSI Assessment

Prospective UHV students should bring their seven-digit student ID number and proof of Pre-Assessment Activity completion to their testing appointment. Non-UHV students will be assigned a temporary ID number. For registration purposes, non-UHV students can enter 1234567 as their UHV ID number.

All incoming freshman attending a public higher education institution in Texas are required to satisfy Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements, unless exempted. For frequently asked questions about the TSI, please visit UHV’s TSI PLAN.

The TSI Assessment is a computer-based exam that is response adaptive (the next question is determined by how the previous question was answered). Test scores are available upon completing the test and should be interpreted by an academic advisor.

Cell phones (and other electronic communication devices) are not permitted in the testing room. Examinees should leave cell phones at home, in a vehicle or in available lockers at the Testing Center. An examinee using a cell phone or possessing a cell phone during the test session will be dismissed, and the scores may be voided.
