ROAR Leadership Conference

Each year, the Department of Student Life hosts their annual ROAR Leadership Conference. This day-long conference allows students to attend presentations designed to enhance their leadership skills and better prepare them for a professional environment. The conference also has the unique ability to increase networking among local area high school seniors, Victoria College, and UH system students. The conference is of no cost to participants, and encourages these students to interact with not only their peers, but also the presenters.

Our past keynote speakers have included Tom Krieglstein, four time winner of Campus Speaker of the Year, who presented on his “Dance Floor Theory”, Mike Fritz, named one of 2015's Hottest Speakers by Campus Activities Magazine, who presented on how he makes leadership F.U.N.  Dr. Jason L. Meriwether, Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs at Indiana University Southeast, who presented on “Building Your Brand: Leadership to Shape, Share, and Remember" and nationally acclaimed Tedx speaker Joshua Fredenburg who presented on “Leadership Self-Discovery 101 – Discovering Your Inner Leadership Super Powers within to Change the World”.

In 2018, Dr. Dakota Doman, Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at Philander Smith College and former Director of Student Life at UHV presented on Effective Student Leadership. Last year, Dr. Ashley Spicer-Runnels, Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at Texas A&M University-San Antonio and UHV Alumnus presented on Elevating Your Excellence. This year will be our first virtual conference. We can't wait to unveil our keynote speaker for 2020. More information to come.
