RISE Diversity Conference

RISE Diversity Conference

The Department of Student Life hosts its first RISE Diversity Conference. This day-long conference allows students to learn new skills, make new connections, and assists them in creating supportive and affirming spaces for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals to thrive. The conference provides engaging workshops and programs aimed at increasing students’ knowledge and understanding of their own culture and the culture of others. Improvement in these areas enhance students’ ability to effectively engage and work with diverse populations.

This year's keynote speaker is the incredibly engaging Brian Roberson, Principal of KIPP Northeast College Preparatory. In his keynote, "Y'all Means All: Creating Supportive Spaces and Places for Authentic Representation of Self", Roberson will empower individuals of all races, ethnicities, genders, and sexual orientations to show up as their true authentic selves at all times, in all places. Roberson will share his personal story and how his experiences have led him on a mission to create brave and belonging spaces for ALL communities.

The conference is also available to local area high school seniors, Victoria College students, and UH System students. Attendance is free and participants receive a free lunch and conference swag.
