AASCU Opportunities for All
The University of Houston-Victoria is proud to be a member of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, an organization made up of more than 400 public colleges, universities and systems across the nation.
Like all state universities, UHV shares a student-focused, learning-centered culture, a historic commitment to underserved student populations and a dedication to research and creativity that makes it uniquely different from land grant or research universities, and community and technical colleges. UHV also is an important part of the Coastal Bend’s economic development.
UHV and its fellow state colleges and universities foster a value system centered around the concept of “Opportunities for All.” As a state university, UHV provides unique opportunities for individuals seeking a broader higher education with an in intimate and collaborative learning environment where faculty members are scholars and mentors.
All state colleges and universities share four core values: quality, accessibility, affordability and responsibility.
High Quality: UHV elevates the teaching and learning experience through smaller class sizes and individualized attention. The university is committed to providing students with the critical thinking that businesses want in their employees, increasing students’ likelihood of being demonstrably competitive in today’s economy.
Accessible: As a state university, UHV offers an environment receptive to the needs of nontraditional students and historically underrepresented communities. UHV is a Hispanic-Serving Institution and a Military Friendly School. The university fosters community diversity and inclusiveness among its student body, faculty and staff.
Affordable: State universities are a smart investment because they often offer greater value for the money than other higher education options. That is certainly the case at UHV. In fact, UHV is the sixth most affordable public university in Texas. UHV offers financial assistance through merit and need-based aid, and graduates have less debt than the national average.
Responsible: We share a fundamental responsibility with all state colleges and universities to create the skilled workforce to support local businesses and advance economic progress and cultural development. UHV adds value and contributes to the intellectual, cultural, economic and social advancement of the community and region.
