Jaguar Journey: August 19-21, 2022
Jaguar Journey Welcome Weekend will be held in-person this year. Most activities throughout the weekend will be held in-person, while some will take place virtually online. Incoming first-year students will be emailed participation instructions for Jaguar Journey in advance, in addition to them being provided during the housing move-in process.
Friday, August 19
Friday is the start of Jaguar Journey, a three day welcome weekend for new first-year students with less than 24 credit hours attending the University of Houston-Victoria. Throughout Jaguar Journey, you will be led by experienced upperclassmen, called Orientation Leaders. On Friday, you will meet your Orientation Leaders, as well as other incoming first-year students in your group. You will also meet our university’s mascot, jaX the Jaguar. You’ll begin to create new relationships with your fellow classmates through activities like group time. You’ll also be provided with a variety of tools needed to be successful academically and socially at UHV. Additionally, you will attend engaging presentations on campus technology, relationships, and personal wellness. Later that afternoon, alongside your group, you will get to participate in a Campus Scavenger Hunt and get to know UHV better. That evening, get ready to be entertained at Mind Blown, a live mentalist show featuring Jym Elders. Friday will be a day you do not want to miss!
Saturday, August 20
On Saturday, you will continue to build upon and create relationships with your classmates through different activities. This is a day that you’ll have the opportunity to do a walkthrough of your schedule, and be able to ask your Orientation Leaders questions that will help you prepare for week one of class. Guided walking tours and Campus Tag will occur throughout the day. You will even receive tips and tricks on being successful in college from upperclassmen. Orientation Leaders, faculty, and staff members will be present to facilitate conversations around these topics. An annual tradition, Casino Night, will take place in the evening in which you will compete for fantastic prizes! To end the night, you will attend a live stand-up comedy show, featuring Caleb Elliott.
Sunday, August 21
Sunday wraps up Jaguar Journey with a variety of competitions between groups, as well as informational sessions on how to get involved and be successful at UHV. You will be introduced to vital campus tools such as JagSync, and get to meet student leaders from the Jaguar Activities Board and Student Government Association. After a jam-packed three days, it will be time to celebrate your accomplishments of becoming a Jaguar. Our Jaguar Journey ceremony is certainly a moment to remember, as you will have officially transitioned into UHV and become a part of the Jaguar family.
