RN to BSN Transfer Guide

We recognize and extend our gratitude for the nurses and, in particular, UHV RN to BSN students and alumni working on the frontlines during this health crisis. We also thank our faculty and staff for their support and commitment to our RN to BSN students during the COVID-19 crisis. UHV’s RN to BSN students and graduates are demonstrating the university’s mission every day by being a successful professional and engaged global citizen as they use their professional nursing skills in a complex world during this unique challenge.

Lower-Level Prerequisite Courses

  • ENGL 1301/ENGL 1302 English Composition - 6 semester hours

  • HIST 1301/HIST 1302 US History - 6 semester hours

  • GOVT 2301/2302 Political Science (Federal and State) - 6 semester hours

  • Literature (Core 040 Language, Philosophy & Culture) - 3 semester hours

  • Speech 1315 - 3 semester hours

    Not required if Texas State Core Complete prior to admission

  • COSC 1301 or equivalent Computer Literacy course - 3 semester hours

    Not required if Texas State Core Complete prior to admission

  • PSYC 2301 Introduction to Psychology - 3 semester hours

  • PSYC 2314 Human Growth and Development - 3 semester hours

  • Visual/Performing Arts (may select from Art, Drama, or Music) - 3 semester hours

  • Math 1342 Statistics or equivalent - 3 semester hours

  • Chemistry or Physical Science, Chemistry Preferred - 3 semester hours

  • BIOL 2401 / 2402 Human Anatomy and Physiology - 8 semester hours

  • BIOL 2420 Microbiology - 4 semester hours

Advanced Placement: Students will be given advanced placement hours of credit of up to 36 hours for successful completion associate degree in nursing (ADN) and subsequently registered nurse (RN) licensure.
