Interactive TV (ITV)

How can I tell when the network is down?

How do I contact the Help Desk?

How do I reserve computer labs, ITV rooms, etc.?

What is the ITV format? How does ITV differ from the face-to-face format? Do I have to actually attend class in person with the ITV format classes?

How can I tell when the network is down?

The network usually isn’t “down”. If you suspect an error, first open up your web browser and try to connect to www.uhv.edu. If can see the website, the UHV infrastructure is internally correct and working. If uhv.edu does not load, then try someplace outside uhv.edu like www.google.com. If you can access this page also, then both connections are working.

Usually when the network is performing slowly, changes are being made. Try accessing the pages again and if errors still occur contact the Help Desk.

What is the ITV format? How does ITV differ from the face-to-face format? Do I have to actually attend class in person with the ITV format classes?

Classes are delivered using a variety of methods.

  • Face-to-Face (F2F) - The instructor and students interact in the same classroom.
  • Interactive television (ITV) - Used for Distance Education where two-way audio and video allow the students and the instructor at one location to simultaneously interact with students at a distant location.
  • Online - Class and course material are accessed over the internet, typically using Blackboard. Students need to have access to a computer and the Internet.
  • Hybrid - 50% F2F and 50% online.

Note: Some distance education classes may require occasional visits to campus for exams or meetings.

Attendance

The UHV Catalog: Academic Standards & Policies: Class Attendance states,

"Students are expected to be diligent in their studies and regular in class attendance, including online courses. The university has no policy allowing a certain number of excused absences or cuts. Instructors will announce their attendance policies at the beginning of the course, including what constitutes attendance in online courses."
