Student Teacher Program

The Teacher Education Program at the University of Houston-Victoria requires a two-semester residency program to satisfy the clinical teaching requirement by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Students in the Teacher Education Program may enroll in coursework alongside the residency program. Information about the various course plans may be found on the JagsTeach webpage.

The traditional student teaching pathway is being phased out at UHV.

In rare cases, students may be approved for the traditional student teaching pathway. This pathway must be approved by the Director of Field Experiences at UH-Victoria.

Student Teacher Application Deadlines

Fall Student Teaching application deadline is March 1.

Spring Student Teaching application deadline is September 15.

$100.00 late fee for student teaching applications submitted within 30 days after the student teaching application deadline.

Students must take all and pass TExES certification exams PPR (EC-6 & 4-8, 7-12 cert, ), Core Subjects (EC-6 & 4-8 cert) and/or Content Exams (7-12 cert)), Science of Teaching Reading (EC-6 & 4-8) prior to beginning their student teaching semester.

Applicants for Student Teaching must be admitted into the Teacher Education Program and meet all requirements for student teaching.
