If teaching is your calling, then UHV’s Texas Teacher Certification program is here for you, making sure you get the education and required State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) credentials you need to make a difference in classrooms all over Texas.
Texas Teacher Certification is the program for you if
- You want to teach in public schools in Texas
- You want to teach in private schools in Texas that require the SBEC for the grades and subjects you will teach

UHV offers several options for Texas teacher certification including undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate programs with classes online and face-to-face in Victoria and at one Houston location - the Katy instructional site. Choose the program that is best for you.
Undergraduate Certification
Complete your Bachelor of Science in Education to prepare for:
- Early childhood–6th grade (elementary education) core subjects certificate
- 4th–8th grade (middle school) core subjects certificate
Teachers may also seek certification for the following in the grade level of their base initial certificate:
- Special education certificate (early childhood–12th grade)
- English as a Second Language certificate (early childhood–8th grade)
Complete your Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology to prepare for K-12 teaching certificate in Physical Education from the State of Texas.
Seeking Subject Area Certifications to teach grades 7-12 in a specific field or Spanish EC- 12? Earn your academic degree through the College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences or College of Natural & Applied Science while obtaining your teacher certification through the College of Education and Health Professions.
Post-Baccalaureate Certification
If you already have a bachelor’s degree, you can take this path and gain certification without having to obtain another undergraduate degree. Some students work as teachers while they earn this certification and others choose to student teach in their final semester.
Victoria Online Initial Certification for Educators (VOICE) Program
Earn certification in as little as 3 semesters in select areas for $3750

You already have your bachelor’s degree and want to earn your teacher certification online in as little as one year while earning graduate-level credit toward a master’s degree. Complete an internship while in the program or student teach in your spring semester.
