Curriculum and Instruction, Early Childhood
Early childhood education teachers help children from infancy to grade school learn and grow and prepare them for the next stages in their education. The MEd in curriculum and instruction, early childhood education helps you do just that by enhancing your teaching and classroom skills and providing you the opportunity to do research within your interest area.
Before you get started, you’ll need
- A bachelor’s degree
- The prerequisites required by the education college’s admissions policy
- Appropriate teaching or related experience
- Access to a computer, webcam, and high-speed Internet as well as basic computer and word-processing skills
Degrees You Can Earn
MEd in Curriculum & Instruction, Early Childhood: With this non-thesis options, this 30-hour program covers a wide range of topics in early school education and provides the opportunity to do research within your interest area.
Your degree with culminate in the Master Comprehensive Exam, which will cover the content of one education core course and the content of two courses within your major area.

Where Can This Degree Take You?
Well, where would you like to go? To start, teachers are wanted all over the state of Texas in public and private schools. You can be a preschool teacher in public or private schools, day care centers and industry care centers. Elementary schools are also in need of K-5 teachers who develop creative and nurturing classrooms for children to grow and learn. You could be a director of a childcare center where you personally train and supervise staff responsible for the care of children, set objectives and standards and work with parents. You could also be a home-based service provider working within a home environment with one or several children to plan and carry out developmentally appropriate activities, ensure nutrition and communicate with the parents about progress and growth of their children. Providing family support for a family in in crisis is also an option requiring this specialized education. As a consultant with this unique skill set, you could assist public and private organizations develop programs and policies that focus on quality child care.
