UHV Counselor Education Program Outcomes for 2017-2018

During the 2017-2018 academic year the UHV Counselor Education program had a total of 114 enrolled students at the Katy and Victoria campuses. The Counselor Education program received 100 new applications for the fall 2017, spring 2018, and summer 2018 semesters. There were 33 Clinical Mental Health Counseling and 8 School Counseling graduates from the UHV Counselor Education program. Our graduates consistently achieved high pass rates on licensing and certification examinations. Our October 2017 (n = 8) and April 2018 (n = 17) National Counselor Examination (NCE) pass rate was 88%. The pass rate for the TExES 152 (n = 7) was 100%. The NCE is required for licensure and the TExES 152 is required for school counselor certification in Texas.

Students are admitted to the Counselor Education program as either full-time or part-time. The following percentages detail the average completion rates from each of the program concentrations. The expected graduation time frame is 3-5 years depending on full time or part time graduate student status. Of those enrolled in the program, 64.5% graduated from the CMHC concentration and 57.1% from the School Counseling concentration within 3 years (on-time) of starting the program.

Each graduate from the Counselor Education program completes a survey that details his or her employment within the counseling field. Per self-report from students graduating this past year, 85% of Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling students report finding a position within the counseling field. Our students are able to successfully find employment in the Houston metro area, Victoria, and throughout Texas. Students report finding employment as LPC-Interns, Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors (LCDCs) and Certified School Counselors (CSCs) in both the Victoria and Houston metro area. Work settings include area Independent School Districts, state mental health counseling agencies, local clinical mental health agencies and group practices, residential treatment facilities, outpatient mental health centers, adoption agencies, and hospitals.
