Before you get started, you’ll need

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited program
  • The prerequisites required by the education college’s admissions policy
  • Access to a computer, webcam, and high-speed Internet as well as basic computer and word-processing skills

Principal Certification Requirements

You will need to meet the following requirements and prerequisites in order to gain principal certification:

  • Hold a valid Texas teacher certificate.
  • Have a minimum of two years of teaching experience at an accredited school.
  • Provide evidence that you have completed a master’s degree from an accredited institution. Your completed M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision with an Emphasis on the Principalship degree will fulfill this requirement.
  • Complete an approved administrative practicum experience.
  • Complete all of the required coursework designed to help you develop administrative competencies and comply with Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) and Texas Principal Standards (Texas Education Code §241.15).
  • Pass the TExES #068 Principal Certification Exam.
