jaX Needs Our Help from UHV President Bob Glenn
Dear UHV Faculty, Staff and Students,
Many area nonprofits are struggling right now with dwindling funds because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but one of those is especially close to my heart and our UHV community.
Since 2015, the Texas Zoo has been home to UHV’s real-life jaguar mascot, jaX (which stands for “jaguars are eXceptional”). jaX came to the zoo from Pennsylvania after UHV made a donation for transportation and renovation of the zoo’s former lion enclosure to house the male jaguar. In 2016, jaX was joined by Sophia, a female jaguar from a zoo in Maryland.
The zoo has had to temporarily close during a time when it is usually busy with school field trips and its annual Wild About Wine fundraiser, which has been delayed. It costs about $40,000 to operate the zoo monthly.
Will you help me support jaX and the Texas Zoo? I am investing in a small sponsorship to support the zoo because of our ongoing relationship and because I think this is a good cause, our community needs the zoo. Please consider joining me in making a donation. Donations can be made through the zoo’s GoFundMe or PayPal accounts.
Fresh produce, unseasoned meat, bleach, other disinfectants, linens, towels and other items also can be donated by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
