More Good News from UHV President Bob Glenn

Dear UHV Faculty, Staff and Students,

I hope you all had a good week! I’d like to share some more good news items about things happening this spring semester despite the challenges we all are facing:

  • Student Government Association Scholarships and Contests – The SGA has been hard at work with several initiatives, including the new Class Ring Giveaway Contest, the “I Am UHV” Scholarship and the SGA/Jags Stop Violence “Campus Humanitarian of the Year” Scholarship. The new contest will provide two outstanding UHV students each with a free, 10 karat gold class ring. For the “I Am UHV” Scholarship, $1,000 and $500 scholarships will go to two recipients who possess strong leadership characteristics and show a financial need. The “Campus Humanitarian of the Year” Scholarship is a $500 award that will go to a student who helps UHV be a more welcoming, safe and inclusive place. Nominations for the scholarship must come from other students, faculty or staff. Applications for the Class Ring Giveaway Contest or the “I Am UHV” Scholarship and the nomination form for the “Campus Humanitarian of the Year” Scholarship are available through JagSync. All applications and nominations are due Sunday, April 19. For more information, contact Michael Wilkinson.
  • Virtual Open House – The university is hosting a Virtual Open House event from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 23, for current and prospective students. This free, interactive, online event is for those interested in earning a bachelor’s or master’s degree online from UHV; attending the main UHV campus in Victoria as a freshman, transfer student or graduate student; or attending the UHV Katy instructional site in Greater Houston as a transfer or graduate student. For more information about the Virtual Open House and to register for the event, go to GoHere.uhv.edu.
  • JP’s Market – The food pantry has expanded its hours, so it is now open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday inside Jaguar Suites, 2703 Houston Highway. JP’s Market is a free, anonymous resource open to both UHV and Victoria College students in order to help eliminate food insecurity. Food and hygiene items are available. Social distancing measures are in place.

Sincerely,
Bob Glenn
