Employee Medical Privacy from UHV’s Rebecca Lake and Laura Smith
Dear UHV Employees,
In accordance with Gov. Abbott's order, we will begin to see a phased reopening of our community, including our campus. We need to be prepared for addressing potential reports of employees testing positive for COVID-19.
Please be aware that if a supervisor receives a report of an employee testing positive for COVID-19, it is important that he or she does not share information that would identify the employee with anyone other than a public health or university official with the need to know for health and safety reasons. Otherwise, sharing an employee’s medical information violates employee privacy rights and university policy, and may subject the individual who discloses the information to disciplinary action.
Although UHV has not had any reported cases of COVID-19 in faculty, staff or students, you can read more about what to expect if there is a positive case reported in the Employee FAQ on the UHV COVID-19 website. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need clarification.
Thank you for your diligence in these efforts, and please let our offices know if you have any future concerns involving disclosure of employee medical information.
