University of Houston-Victoria

Phase 2 Status Update from UHV President Bob Glenn

Dear UHV Students, Faculty and Staff,

Please be advised that UHV remains in Phase 2 of its Phased Reopening Plan. (https://www.uhv.edu/covid-19/phased-reopening/phase-2/ ) The mandate to wear masks in all public areas and maintain social distancing remains in full effect. All cleaning protocols remain in place. UHV Reopening Task Force members note that there are many positive signs in terms of the decreasing number of cases and improvement in hospital rates, but the need to remain vigilant requires us to maintain our current status. With the approach of Spring Break, there also remains a possibility that student travel to various locations around the state could cause an uptick in cases. The earliest a change in status could take place is after students return from Spring Break. This change will only take place if our rates remain stable.

I am pleased to note that many faculty and staff have stepped up to volunteer with the Victoria vaccination effort. As a result, Victoria has qualified as a vaccination hub, which helps everyone in our region. I am grateful to the generosity of our faculty and staff who have helped. It is precisely this kind of behavior that will help bring an end to the pandemic.

Further updates will be sent directly to you as they occur. The health and well-being of our faculty, staff and students remains our highest priority. We are committed to creating a campus environment that is as safe as possible and minimizes the spread of COVID-19. Again, our existing COVID-19 protocols remain in effect. As always, you are welcome to send any questions or comments to me directly.

Bob Glenn
