Coronavirus Updates from UHV President Bob Glenn
Dear UHV Faculty, Staff and Students,
The global outbreak of the new coronavirus, known as COVID-19, is changing the way that universities and businesses are operating, and we think taking the actions below is the best way to prepare both our Victoria and Katy locations for the months ahead:
We are canceling all university events through the end of the spring semester. This includes all Homecoming events scheduled for March 30 through April 4 and the International Festival on April 17.
We will decide at the end of March whether to postpone our May 16 spring commencement ceremony and will update everyone at that time.
The residence halls in Victoria will remain open with limited food service available. Students who choose to move out of the residence halls will be eligible for a prorated housing refund or may apply their housing fees to the fall semester.
We also have made changes to our travel restrictions for faculty, staff and students. UHV is restricting international and domestic business travel that requires university funds or approval until at least the end of April. In addition, UHV is strongly recommending refraining from any international travel during the same time.UHV also is recommending limiting domestic personal travel, at least until the end of April, particularly for those with underlying health conditions.
All faculty, staff and students who travel outside of the United States, whether it is personal or university related, are required to complete a 14-day self-quarantine and receive approval before returning to campus.
Offices at both the main UHV campus and at UHV Katy will remain open, although we would appreciate everyone’s patience. Meetings with students may need to take place remotely, but all of the university’s support services will remain functional.
