Phase 3 Clarification from UHV President Bob Glenn
From the questions I am receiving, it would appear that my message sent Monday was not clear. My apologies. I would like to rephrase my message in hopes of being clearer. On Monday, I announced that we were moving to Phase 3. In Phase 3, up to 30% of the staff may be present on campus working.
Some people have asked if this means they need to come back to campus. The short answer is no. The percentage stated in the policy is the maximum, not a required minimum. The expectation is that each director will review what needs to be done by the unit and what staff members need to be present to accomplish those needs.
If a staff member can accomplish their work remotely, prefers to work remotely and the supervisor supports this, then the staff member may continue to work remotely. The question that has to be asked is whether the staff member can take care of student needs or accomplish assigned tasks from where he or she is. Some staff members must do their work on campus. It is the supervisor’s responsibility to manage the safe return of staff to campus. If you are a staff member and you have a question about returning, ask your supervisor. If you are a supervisor and you have a question, ask the vice president over your area.
Our staff and faculty are our most important resource. We cannot serve our students without you. We want to push decision making about being on campus down to the lowest possible level. Your work is absolutely critical to serving our primary mission. Your exact location for doing your work is not as important. By working together, we will take care of our students and keep everyone as safe as possible in the process.
