Texas Coastal Bend Community Oral History Project

About the Project

The Texas Coastal Bend Community Oral History Project collects and preserves oral histories from community members to both preserve lived historical experiences for posterity and encourage healthy and productive community dialogue. The central goals of the project--a collaboration between the Victoria Regional History Center, Be Well Victoria Coalition, and University of Houston-Victoria faculty and staff—are to:

  • Create compelling and vivid snapshots that capture the historical first-person experiences of the region;
  • Identify and amplify a diverse range of experiences;
  • Bridge the shared and unique experiences of both native and new local residents as a tool to carry forward future community dialogue;
  • Generate reflection and discussion of biases and disparities in the community with attention to the potential for positive change; and
  • Connect the University of Houston-Victoria with community organizations and stakeholders.

Current Status of the Project

The Project is currently in its planning stage. Technology is being installed and community input is being solicited. Once the Project is ready to begin scheduling interviews, this page will include a list of interviewers and suggested topics of interest.
