What is the major difference between the Strategic MBA and the Global MBA, and how do I know which one is a better fit for me?
Our
comparison table should help you choose between the Global and the Strategic MBA programs. The Global program is focused on International Business (cross-cultural), while our Strategic program is focused on strategy and leadership (cross-disciplinary). If you have completed a BBA degree in the last 5 years, the Global program may be a shorter route to an MBA for you. If your undergraduate degree was not in business or was completed more than 5 years ago, then the Strategic MBA may be the shorter route.

What do I need to do to apply for and enroll in a School of Business Administration program?
We've prepared an
application checklist and a new student checklist for you to follow to make sure you're ready to start classes.

I need to defer my admission. What is the process?
All you need to do is file an "Update to Admission" form to change your semester of application to summer.

Is there an explanation behind the ranking in US News for Online MBAs?
In Spring 2013, UHV’s School of Business Administration was honored to rank #139 in US News and World Report Best Online Graduate Business Program, the first time to be listed on this world wide ranking. UHV serves mainly working adults and are a non-traditional program. Many of the rankings add weight to programs that report student earning information as an indicator of employability post MBA completion. UHV’s SBA has approximately 900 graduate business students, many of whom are working for the major corporations in Houston and around the world. Our students are fortunate to have this as a resource within the program and students benefit from the insights from these professionals. We choose not to list or ask students for information relating to their salaries and are therefore unable to complete much of the survey data.

How much is the application fee?
None of our programs require an application fee.

Do I need an undergraduate degree in order to apply for admission to a graduate program?
Applicants for a graduate program must have earned a bachelor's degree or higher in an institution accredited by one of the six recognized regional accrediting associations. The six associations are Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Foreign institutions which may not be formally accredited by the United States accrediting agencies must be recognized by the Ministry of Education in the country where the institution is located as maintaining high academic standards.

I have heard that it is possible to be admitted to UHV's graduate business programs on a temporary basis without taking the GMAT. How does that work?
Many applicants to our graduate programs will be eligible for temporary graduate admission. This means that they have submitted applications and transcripts reflecting their completion of bachelors' degrees, but have not yet completed the GMAT. Temporary status allows students to take up to 12 hours prior to full admission to a graduate program.

In addition to the temporary graduate admission for the first 12 hours, some students may qualify for a
GMAT waiver, which allows students with undergraduate GPAs of 3.0 or higher and at least two years of relevant professional work experience to apply to waive the GMAT. If you meet these two criteria, your waiver is granted on the condition that you earn grades of B or better in selected graduate courses in your program.

Your GPA can be calculated either as your overall or over the last 60 hours, whichever is higher. If necessary, we can include up to 12 hours coursework earned as a temporary graduate student.

What is the application deadline?
There is no application deadline for citizens and permanent residents of the United States. However, students are encouraged to submit their application and all supporting documentation as early as possible to ensure adequate time for processing before registration.
International students must submit applications for admission and all supporting admission documentation, regardless of your degree objective, by the following dates to ensure time for processing: Fall - June 1, Spring - October 1, Summer - March 1.

I have a professional degree in law (or medicine). Do I need to take the GMAT?
If you hold a professional degree (such as in law or medicine) from an accredited university in the U.S., you are exempt from completing the GMAT requirement. Professional degrees earned outside the U.S. must be evaluated for equivalency; in addition to being recognized by the Ministry of Education of the host country, in general the degrees must have required at least two years of study beyond the four-year baccalaureate degree,

I've taken the GMAT, but my official scores won't arrive for another few weeks. Is it possible for me to register now?
You may be able to register without official GMAT scores. Provide a copy of your unofficial score report to the School of Business Administration by email at
busadvisor@uhv.edu, or by fax at 361-580-5529.

Is the GMAT required?
The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is required of most applicants to graduate programs. However, some applicants will qualify for a waiver of the GMAT based on previous education and/or work experience. For more information, refer to the GMAT Waiver Policy under the graduate program of your choice.

If I take the GMAT more than once, which scores do you use?
The School of Business Administration will use the most recent GMAT scores for admission purposes.
